Dow's integrated, market-driven, industry-leading portfolio of specialty chemical, advanced materials, agrosciences and plastics businesses delivers a broad range of technology-based products and solutions to customers in approximately 180 countries and in high-growth sectors such as packaging, electronics, water, coatings and agriculture. In 2015, Dow had annual sales of nearly $49 billion and employed approximately 49,500 people worldwide. The Company's more than 6,000 product families are manufactured at 179 sites in 35 countries across the globe.
Dow entered China in the 1930s. Since then, the Company has invested more than US$ 1.2 billion in the Greater China region, and become its second largest international market globally. In 2015, the Company’s sales volume grew 10 percent in Greater China.
Dow is committed to long-term development in Greater China by enhancing its local innovation and manufacturing capabilities and building the regional business into a global hub. Today, Dow operates 10 business centers, 17 manufacturing sites, 1 Business Process Service Center across China, and has approximately 5,000 employees. The Shanghai Dow Center (SDC), opened in 2009 in the Zhangjiang High-Tech Park in Shanghai, is the business and innovation hub for Dow in the Asia Pacific. It’s also Dow’s largest integrated R&D center worldwide, bringing together corporate R&D expertise with market-focused application development. The center has more than 500 highly skilled scientists working in over 80 world-class laboratories.
Dow has long been committed to corporate citizenship in China, delivering tremendous impact through a variety of projects in areas of Sustainability, Science and Education, Community Success, and Disaster Relief. As a respected leader in sustainability and Responsible Care, Dow helps raise the industry standard in China by sharing its best practices with local small-and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) through a number of capacity building projects in partnership with government and non-government organizations. Meanwhile, Dow has initiated a variety of projects to introduce sustainability to young people.
- It has partnered with Junior Achievement (JA) China since 2008 to implement the “Our City” program, a selective course that has allowed 360,000 primary school students so far to learn about the role of sustainability in the urban economy;
- The Dow Chemistry Labs were opened in Tianjin and Heilongjiang Science & Technology Museums, providing children with a better understanding of how chemistry affects our lives and society;
- Dow also sponsors the Chinese Chemistry Olympiad to encourage high school seniors to explore the power of chemistry;
- Through its partnership with the China Youth Development Foundation (CYDF), Dow has donated the funds to rebuild 13 Project Hope Schools across China.
Dow has received numerous awards in recognition of its excellent corporate culture and strong commitment to corporate citizenship, including the 2013 - 2015 China Outstanding Corporate Citizenship Award from the China Committee of Corporate Citizenship, and, for eight consecutive years, the “China’s Top Employer” certificate presented by the Corporate Research Foundation International.
